A May 2020 Infobrief by IDC, the global market intelligence and advisory firm for technology markets, outlines key aspects underpinning the fast-evolving flexible office market.

In a series of interviews with leading multi-site flex-space operators and landlords, the Future of Work team at IDC has identified shared challenges in managing the complexity inherent in a flexible workspace operation.

Flexibility is the Way Forward

Talent attraction and retention, corporate identity and user experiences are a few of the foundational elements that will forever make the office a staple of any workforce. Despite increased remote working due to the coronavirus pandemic, the office remains a pillar for future of work practices – and flexibility is the way forward.

Tech-enabled Workspaces

Technology that enables businesses to diversify and scale up or down is an essential ingredient for flexible and agile office management. Respondents in the research study touched upon the operational and technological complexities that empower the agility and flexibility that occupiers demand.

User Experience is Essential

Research lead, Mick Heys highlights: “We have also learned that user experience within the workplace is essential. Keeping members productive and offering and always-on approach to services is a differentiating factor for success among workspace brands. Technology is a key enabler for member experience and productivity”.

Co-founder and COO of Kiln workspace, Andrew Redpath, comments: “It’s important to make sure that technology doesn’t come as an obstacle to human interaction, but it enhances the level of user engagement in the community”.
