Using bandwidth insights to improve occupier experience with essensys Platform

Table of Contents

When you’re a landlord or operator responsible for providing digital services (like connectivity) to your occupiers, it’s essential that you provide an excellent experience. A key aspect to keep an eye on to make sure your digital experience is on point is bandwidth utilisation. Think of bandwidth as your motorway for data – the more lanes open, the smoother the traffic flows.

How does bandwidth impact digital experience?

At its core, bandwidth measures how much data travels and how fast it moves across the internet. Drawing an analogy with rush-hour traffic, imagine cars as data packets. If only one lane is open, traffic slows; open three lanes and data flows freely. The higher the bandwidth, the faster the transfer, translating to quicker web page loads, faster downloads, and seamless streaming. Equally, low bandwidth can lead to slower data transfer, causing delays and buffering issues.

Monitoring bandwidth utilisation with essensys Platform

essensys Platform gives you the ability to monitor and understand your clients bandwidth utilisation. This allows you to identify any tenants who are regularly over-utilising their bandwidth allowance, which may be leading to frequent periods of poor digital experience.

With a few clicks in essensys Platform, you can get a breakdown of bandwidth consumption by tenant within a defined time period. All you need to do is navigate to the Operations tab, click Reports, and select Bandwidth under Network Reports.

Here, you can:

  • Select the site you wish to view.
  • Configure the view for the entire site, a specific bandwidth pipe, or a particular client.
  • Toggle the date range for a day, week, month, or a custom period.
  • Choose to view overall bandwidth or upload/download specifics.
  • Access a breakdown view by client, application, or IP.

What to look out for?

  1. Identify any spikes in bandwidth utilization near or above the maximum threshold. Hover over these spikes to note the time/day and change the view to those specific days to identify tenants with high bandwidth usage.
  2. Review the client breakdown over a 1 or 3 month period to highlight tenants consistently using higher bandwidth.

What to do next?

This information helps you identify which tenants are frequently utilising high bandwidth – and this may be impacting their digital experience. It’s worth discussing this with the occupier in question. How has their connectivity been performing lately? Has anything changed recently that’s increased their bandwidth usage? Depending on the situation, you may want to upgrade the occupiers bandwidth allocation to superfast or dedicated. Some operator’s charge an additional fee for this, others don’t – it all depends on your offering and approach. All of this can be done via essensys Platform quickly and easily so your occupiers experience can be instantly improved.
