We were building the technology behind flexible workspace before the industry had a name for it. The systems underneath our platform were built in-house because nothing existed to buy. And we've just rebuilt all three products from the ground up — not because they'd stopped working, but because the bar moved.

Today, essensys is the digital experience company for flex: one data model, three products and the infrastructure behind the operators tenants choose.
Nobody was treating it as infrastructure.
In 2006, every flexible workspace was a one-off IT project. Every building solved the same problems from scratch, badly, at its own expense — and the technology that should have been the most dependable thing in a building was routinely the least.
That was the thing worth fixing: treat it as one system rather than a pile of point solutions, build it properly once, and let every building benefit. It's still the job.

Mark founded essensys in 2006, having watched the same problem repeat itself building by building: every workspace a one-off project, every operator paying to reinvent something somebody had already built
Twenty years on, his argument has moved past the plumbing. Flex isn't won on location and rent any more — it's won on the experience an operator delivers and, increasingly, can prove. Tenants choose on it. Landlords award buildings on it. Renewals turn on it.
Which is what essensys is for: making the operators who run it demonstrably stronger businesses than the ones who don't.
